hostanote Terminology
To clearly explain how hostanote works, the following definitions are being
used.

Member
Anyone who creates or builds a free hostanote Album. People become a
Member by simply creating a hostanote and filling in the new Member information
during that process, or by registering under the New Member link.
Membership is free on this site because each album is Sponsored.
Viewer
Anyone who looks at or views a published hostanote Album. Viewers are those people the Member is sharing an Album with.
Sponsor
The organization or person that registers as a Sponsor and shares the hostanote service. The hostanote service is made available through a web button on the sponsors web site. The sponsors banner is displayed on a landing page in front of each Album. Sponsors can purchase a Premium Upgrade, and are then referred to as Premium Sponsors.
Co-Sponsor
A co-sponsor is the funding partner whose brand appears on all banners. Blackstone is the default co-sponsor. Sponsors that purchase a Premium upgrade do NOT share banner space with a co-sponsor.
The
hostanote service
The hostanote service is an online photo sharing service that allows photos to
be shared online. This included the uploading pictures to a server,
automatically resizing the photo's, storing the photos, screening pictures,
downloading photos for viewing and linking the sponsor banner to the Album. The
service allows Members and Sponsors to review how often Albums are viewed.
Accessed through any standard browser these collective processes are called the
hostanote service.
hostanote or hostanote AlbumAlso referred to as a hostanote Album, it is the electronic content that is created and uploaded to the Internet using the 'hostanote service'.
hostanote or hostanote Album
ID
The number that represents a unique hostanote Album. This number is emailed to the Member creating the Album each time a hostanote Album is successfully uploaded. This number can be used to view an Album by entering it at www.hostanote.com (or by going to http://hostanote.com/go/hostanote ID).
Publish
/ Unpublish
Publish means to make a hostanote Album available for viewing on the Internet. A hostanote can be published by clicking on the Publish button when the album is being created, or by clicking on the Publish icon (globe with small white arrow) in the Members section.
Unpublish means to make a hostanote unavailable for viewing (taken offline). There are three ways a hostanote can be unpublished (taken offline):
- A hostanote is automatically unpublished each time it is edited (clicking the Pencil icon). It must be re-published after each edit in order to be available for viewing again.
- A hostanote can be unpublished by the Sponsor clicking the Block button in the Sponsors section.
- A hostanote is unpublished if it is deleted.

License/AgreementA license is granted to the Member which allowing them to upload their hostanote Albu onto the Internet. The grant is only provided when the Member agrees to follow the rules outlined in the Terms Of Service Agreement.

Builder
The online application (browser based) that is used to create a hostanote Albums. This allows the Member to use pictures, titles and text to build an Album, and publish the completed Albu to the Internet, ready for viewing.
Privacy
Key
A password which is attached to an Album at the time of publishing. The Privacy Key is required by anyone trying to view the Album. A Privacy Key is often used to share content between family and friends where the content is not to be made available to the Public.
